Put into a bowl one part Humayun's Tomb, one part Taj Mahal and a dash of whimsy, stir, and you have Safdarjung's Tomb. And you will have the place all to your self in the middle of crowded New Delhi. The tomb was the last great tomb built by the Mughals at a time when their grip on India started its steady decline. The site is overlooked by tourists, but it's no less impressive as other wonders of Mughal architectural. Go there first thing in the morning to enjoy the grounds all alone, save for a few noisy peacocks.
