One of the last remaining Sabal palm forests in the United States, the Sabal Palm Grove Audubon Center and Sanctuary, owned by the National Audubon Society, and its 557 acres of intricate trails are home to birds like buff-bellied hummingbirds, green jays, several varieties of warblers and white-tipped doves. Viewing blinds and platforms welcome birders as do strategically placed benches (the humidity can be grueling in the summer—the center is in a tropical rainforest microclimate). The exquisite Rabb Plantation Mansion is also restored and open for tours—another option for resting between sightings. The Center offers birding and nature walks with local professional bird guide David Benn and the sanctuary has a live bird feeder cam on its website.
