Ruinas de San Francisco
Calle Emiliano Tejera, Santo Domingo 10212, Dominican Republic
Blending The Past With The PresentLas Ruinas de San Francisco are the ruins of the oldest busing on the island. It was build in the 1500's and it served as a monastery for centuries. Around the early 1900's it was converted to an asylum until it was closed.
Today it serves as a reminder of the cultural heritage of the island and as an icon of the history of this country.
Every Sunday afternoon at 5pm the locals gather here to celebrate their culture with family and friends. Grab a drink and enjoy a local band play... If you are up for it, grab a partner and get to the dance floor for some merengue dancing... It is a staple of the Dominican culture.
