Find Out All the Best Deets About May’s Royal WeddingA Spring Royal Wedding: What You Need to Know
In what is perhaps the biggest transatlantic marriage event since Gwyneth Paltrow and Chris Martin tied the knot way back in 2003 (were Coldplay even a thing then?), Meghan Markle, American star of TV movies When Sparks Fly and Dater’s Handbook, will get hitched with Prince Harry, fifth in line to the throne, son of Lady Di and, possibly, Charles, Prince of Wales.
When the engagement was announced, the collective sigh of relief from both sides of the Atlantic was palpable. The entire United States of America and all of Great Britain had been anxiously awaiting some positive intercontinental news ever since Gwyneth and Chris so sadly, consciously uncoupled way back in 2014. Barack Obama was president, Donald Trump was a TV show host, Britain was part of Europe. Things change, apparently.
So just what to expect from this May’s gargantuan bash? Well, if you’re heading to Britain for the big day, get your London holiday rental sorted right away. With garden parties, street processions and live concerts aplenty (not to mention extended licensing hours across the country on the weekend in question), London will surely be the place to be come 19th May (even more so if you fancy taking in the FA Cup final).
Here are a few deets that anyone without a heart of stone will want to know about Meghan and Harry’s special day:
We’ve got the date down already, but do you know the location? St. George’s Chapel at Windsor Castle is where Prince Harry was baptised – a thought that brings a tear to this writer’s eye as he considers the undoubted joy of that day juxtaposed withthe tragic eventsthirteen years hence – further, the chapel is where Prince Charles and Duchess Camilla’s 2005 prayer and dedication service took place, and where the Queen will be laid to rest.
Windsor Castle itself is of course a royal residence, famous as much for its architectural beauty as its long-held association with the royal family. Almost a thousand years old, the castle was built by William the Conqueror, and is surrounded by gardens as immaculate, fertile and abundant as any in England.
The couple are expecting 600 of their close family and friends for the service, however, only a select few 200 individuals will be going along to the private reception that follows, which will be held at Frogmore House, also on the Windsor Castle grounds.
Anticipated guests include, among others, tennis star Serena Williams, dishy Canadian prime minister Justin Trudeau and wife Sophie, girl power throwbacks the Spice Girls, and mega-superstar Michelle Obama and husband Barack.
In preparation for her wedding, Meghan has been baptised by the Archbishop of Canterbury with holy waters from the River Jordan. So a super-charged baptism, then. Rumour has it that the US actor’s wedding dress will be designed by Ralph & Russo, who have been worn by A-list celebs such as Angelina Jolie, Beyoncé, Rihanna and.... Gwyneth Paltrow. The circle is complete.
May this couple remain as such, so that no uncoupling, conscious or otherwise, ever be deemed necessary.
