Winter wonderlandThis time last year I was making preparations to go with the family to Rovaniemi, to be at the Arctic Circle and meet Santa Claus.
The kids were so excited. It's pretty adventurous for a family with small kids but not impossible. Finland is a very child friendly country so you get help with whatever you need if you ask for it.
Being at the Arctic Circle in winter is incredible, the temperature is at around -18C on an average. It's dry cold so very manageable with proper clothes.
The area is pretty busy with tourists, plenty of great restaurants, our favorite being Nili. They serve an amazing menu of traditional Lapish food. For the kids, the Santa Village and Santa Park are a dream come true. Meeting the "real" Santa was the highlight of my son's year. There are ice slides for a very small day fee. The Christmas market is great, lots of Lapish products for sale. It was a great experience for all of us.
