Castle St, Cloonbrackna, Roscommon, Ireland
Fantastic Castle RuinsThere aren't many places where a short stroll through town will bring you to a park with its very own large castle! But that is exactly what you will find if you walk Roscommon Town's Castle Road & turn down Castle Lane.
Built in the 12th century, the castle was once surrounded by a lough, which the castle builders used to create its moat. The lake that remains is only small, but the castle itself is quite large, and well worth exploring. Be sure to bring your camera, because as well as the wonderful Castle ruins, there are ducks & swans on the lake, plus a friendly horse in the field by the castle who seems to love a scratch & a photo op. Enjoy!
