The enormous Gaspé Peninsula sticks way into the Gulf of St. Lawrence. At its end, a limestone-and-shale rock formation called the Rocher Percé ends in a fantastic natural arch. The rock forms a national park with tiny Bonaventure Island, where gannets, cormorants and hundreds of other seabird species form thriving colonies, while whales skirt past villages with appealing old homes. Just to the north, the Forillon National Park headlands are equally stunning.
