Little did I know while climbing the snows of the Antisana (18,700 ft.) volcano in Ecuador in 2001, I would, six years later, be rafting on the Rio Napo, whose headwaters are fed from that very snow. I was on an Amazon Basin trip with my fourteen year old son. During a shore break, we were joined by these native boys who were grateful to share our lunch, using banana leaves as plates.
