St Vincent and the Grenadines
Richmond BeachSitting on the west coast of St. Vincent, two hours from Kingstown and near the Richmond River, Richmond Beach is another popular birding spot. It’s also one of the most beautiful of the island’s black-sand beaches. The crescent of sand sits beside a small forested area that provides good shade if the sun becomes too intense, as well as providing a habitat for many of the birds here. Since it is located on the protected leeward side of the island, there is little surf or undertow which provides calm conditions ideal for swimming (though beware of a very deep drop-off not far from the shore). Note: the road to Richmond Beach passes through Fitz Hughes, where you can see ruins of plantations from the island’s colonial era.
