Midnight View of ReykjavikI can't stop telling everyone I encounter how crazy 24 hours of daylight was. I snapped this picture from the 4th floor kitchen of the Reykjavik Backpacker's hostel at approximately 12:30 on a Saturday night (Sunday morning) in order to show friends at home the craziness.
I really enjoyed staying at backpackers and would recommend anyone visiting Reykjavik to do the same. It's located in the heart of Laugavegur, Reyjavik's main restaurant/bar/shopping street and within walking distance of downtown harbor and all the tour booking stores. The Bunk Bar, located in the lobby, is a great place to grab drinks and the front desk doubles as a tour info station. They can book any tour, car rental, lodging, etc. right there for you.
Reykjavikers don't hit the bar scene until well after midnight. They usually pregame or go to a house party because of the high alcohol costs. We played it like the locals that night and drank in the hostel kitchen with some fellow travelers after happy hour. After a few hours of talking and more than a few Viking and Gulls knocked back we headed out to join the party. I took this photo right before we left.
