This restaurant on the outskirts of Viseu features the traditional foods of Beira Alta, primarily game. Not being a fancier of most wild meats, I went with some trepidation. I need not have worried, as these folks know what they are doing!
This is a venerable no-frills restaurant, oriented toward families and hunters (there is a shooting range adjacent to the restaurant). The menu is seasonal and being in the Dau region, offers good wine pairings--local food, local wine.
My group of four shared several rustic dishes, including wild boar and various sausages. My favorite of the lot, however, was the partridge pie, something entirely new to me. To finish, we had sweet cherry liquor and coffee.
Recommended for anyone who wants to explore Portugal's culinary traditions with game, and experience the "heart of the Dau"!
