Dine at a Château in Paris City Limits
Few women have cracked the glass ceilings of the kitchens of Paris, but chef Virginie Basselot managed to do so—and earn a Michelin star in the process. Her style at this Relais & Chateaux property isn’t exactly “feminine,” but the dishes do have a delicate touch, with lighter sauces and more vegetables than is typically found in gourmet French cuisine. Competing with the food are the spectacular surroundings: The dining room—all intricate wood paneling, red-and-gold velvet seating and chandeliers—recalls the private club it once was; the terrace features seating under a hot air balloon-inspired canopy. Note that lunch is reserved for hotel guests; for dinner and Sunday brunch it’s open to the public.
