This Québécois chain of bookstores has gone the way of Barnes & Noble over the last decade, incorporating more and more gift items, toys and stationary among their books. Traditionalists complain about it, but it has made the store – especially this flagship location – an awfully useful one-stop gift shop, with fun items beckoning for your attention in every corner. The ground floor is dedicated to these peripheral products, while the second floor is where the serious stuff is at – a vast selection of books in French, and a decent one in English, too. The art section is always well stocked, and if you’re interested in exploring Canadian or Québécois literature, this is the place to start.
