The ruins of a 13th-century Roman Catholic convent are visible high on a hill that overlooks the fjord and the otherwise flat landscape of this part of the Fosen Peninsula. There's not much information about the Rein Abbey as few written records were kept, but it is known that several noblewomen and female members of the royal family resided there. Today the abbey's land is the site of a working farm with a bright red wooden church, built in 1932.
