This refugio serves as both a trekker's lodge and a starting point for many for the W trek in Torres del Paine National Park. You take a catamaran from Punto Pudeto, at the entrance to the park, to here to begin the hike, since cars aren't allowed this far in. You can camp here or rent a bed in a shared dormitory. There are shared bathrooms and a large kitchen where hikers convene over meals cooked by a friendly staff. The food is mediocre, but the lodge is a necessary haven: by staying there, you're able to sleep right in the national park, at a crossroads between two of the W's best hikes, the French Valley trail and Glaciar Grey trail.
