Recess [CLOSED]

Eat yourself into a gourmet stupor at Recess
Recess' Greg Hardesty hasn't won a James Beard Award... yet. The perennial JB nominee is a hands down favorite for his daily set menus at Recess and casual offerings at Room Four next door. Recess rivals any fine dining establishment I've been to in the U.S. and the casual, unpretentious atmosphere makes it superior to many of them. Recess sources the best locally grown foods and flies in fish fresh daily. Located in SoBro close to the Upland Tasting Room.

Recess time in Indy
When I first heard that our group was eating at a restaurant called Recess, I immediately thought of a playground.

As it turns out, the chef decided to name the joint Recess because that's how he feels when he's in the kitchen creating new dishes.

Unlike most restaurants, Recess offers a new á la carte menu daily, which definitely spices things up. They also offer wine pairings to go along with each dish. Of course if you have a food allergy, the chef will alter each course to your preference.

Despite the fancy food, the ambiance is very urban in nature. I could also tell that there were a lot of locals here because many of the diners briefly chatted with each other before taking their seats.

More on Bohemian Trails.

A restaurant for the adventurous in Indianapolis
This restaurant in the SoBro neighborhood of Indianapolis is a lesser know restaurant but I honestly had one of the best meals of my like here. The concept is different to say the least. The restaurant is very minimalistic with concrete floors and old orange school chairs but with a hip classy vibe. The restaurant has a nightly menu with only a very limited choice and a flat base price for your meal. You choose your appetizer, salad, entree, and dessert. When I went there were things on there that I would have never ordered otherwise, which forces you to try something new and I absolutely loved everything I ate. This place is not cheap, but it's bot an expensive as a steak dinner downtown either. Great for a date night or if you are looking for a bit of a change from a normal meal.
