This former scruffy sandbar jutting into the Mississippi River next to the Wabasha Street Bridge now serves as glowing beacon on sunlit evenings. In 2008 the land was transformed to a pedestrian destination and concert venue. On summer and early fall evenings, Saint Paul's Music in the Parks program hosts concerts in the bandshell. The Schubert bandshell is the main attraction on the island. Echoing the arches of the Robert Street bridge, clad in glass on a lattice steel frame, this architectural gem somehow maintains a quiet presence on the river. Access the island on stairways down from the bridge, and enjoy the views of the working river. Native vegetations rims the island, and there's a pier on one end where people frequently try their luck with a fishing pole.
