Explore India's History

Art enthusiast Dr. Dinkar Kelkar started collecting objects in the 1920s, and by 1960, he’d amassed over 15,000 pieces. In 1962, Dr. Kelkar made a gift of the collection to Maharashtra’s Archeology Department, which now boasts over 20,000 curiosities. The collection primarily features Indian decorative artifacts from the 18th and 19th centuries.
