Authentic Puerto Rican Food in Old San Juan (yes really!)
Running around Old San Juan can be a little overwhelming, with its many world class shops, fusion restaurants, bars and even more claiming the most authentic of authentic Puerto Rican food. Walking in they had beautiful decorations that remind me of the Puerto Rico
from the past, the island of my grandparents, the one I can only view in photos today or the paintings their walls. I am happy to report I found my proper slice of the island life in Raices Restaurant. I had the best Mofongo in years as much as it pains me to admit, with Dorado (Mahi Mahi) y Camarones (Shrimp) combo on top cooked in a delicious garlic sauce. A truly good Mofongo is savory but not overly salted and this one in particular had a wonderfully firm texture to match the succulent seafood. I also had the joy of washing it down with a respectable Mojito that left me quite tipsy on the way out!
