Bird Watching in Rachel Carson National Wildlife Refuge
Rachel Carson National Wildlife Refuge was established in 1966 in cooperation with the State of Maine to protect valuable salt marshes and estuaries for migratory birds. The refuge entrance is located on Port Road (Route 9) in Wells. There are 9,125 acres made up of several parcels of land along Maine’s southern coast. Dogs are welcome on a leash. The loop trail in Wells takes less than an hour with overlooks along the way. Bring binoculars to view the shore birds in the marshes.
