七福 (Kyuji Ramen)

Delicious Baseball-Themed Ramen-ya Near Namba Station
Kyuji Ramen is a good way to learn about and hang out intimately with some foodie-obsessed, fun-loving Osakans. This ramen-ya is on the ground floor just a few buildings off of the always-crowded Midosuji. You'll know you're there when you see an outdoor easel sign spoofing Rage Against the Machine's Battle of Los Angeles album cover. Kyuji's version proclaims, in English, "We Are Rock Syunen," adds a full beer mug to the clenched left fist of the original protagonist, and prophetically declares "The Battle of Kyuji."

They offer miso and chicken dashi ramen bowls here, as well as Chinese-style spicy tantanmen and some versions of tsukemen. The charshu is quite good, and the noodles are thin enough to be called Hakata-style.

Full Disclosure: the chef only speaks a little bit of English, but it won't matter once you try his ramen. Another plus: the ramen bowls here are very interestingly shaped. If you like baseball, rock music, and ramen, you won't find a better place to kill a half an hour (or an evening).
