Just before Punta Gorda's main street bumps into the Caribbean, Cotton Tree Chocolate occupies a tiny two-room factory and store. The ladies who run the place are always happy to give free tours—the best part is out back, where they roast cacao beans in a little home coffee roaster, then remove the hulls by tossing the beans in a gold pan and blowing the chaff away with an electric hair dryer.
I'm sure I was influenced by the tour and the surrounds, but I have to say the bar we bought was probably the best I've ever had.
