Puerto Nuevo, BC
Dia De Los Muertos
I was prepared to go to Mexico for day of the dead to party and get my face painted, as that is how Americans have changed the spiritual holiday of honoring the spirit of loved ones who have passed away. When I arrived to the popular fishing village of Puerto Nuevo on Nov 2. I was greeted with a whole other scene. The tradition is to honor the dead with gifts and is more of a somber event than giant party. Locals said they celebrate at the cemetery and inside their homes. The marigolds are the flower that is used to celebrate because the scent is so strong and colors so bright, which will make it easier for the spirits to find. I highly recommend to visit Mexico on Dia De Los Muertos and capture the beauty of this sacred day.
