Puerto Lopez, Ecuador
Puerto Lopez on a Fisherman's MorningPuerto Lopez is known as being the perfect place in Ecuador to witness the majestic humpback whales migrating along the coast, and for being a key access point to Isla de la Plata, a perfect point for seeing blue-footed boobies and a few other Galapagos creatures without paying the gargantuan Galapagos price. While these attractions tend to steal the show, lots of action can be found in town in the early morning, when the fisherman bring the daily catch onto the beach. Within 100 meters you'll see the boats pulling into shore and negotiations between the fisherman and local restaurants, followed by a fish cleaning station leading into a local beach-front restaurant to eat some of that delicious fresh catch for breakfast. Go and take a seat facing the shore to watch the madness of the fishing business unfolding in front of you, and don't try some of that freshly caught tuna as a morning meal!
