Picnic at Prince’s Island Park

Whether you’re coming for a jog, a picnic by the fountains, a canoe ride, cross-country skiing, or the Calgary Folk Festival, this urban park is not to be missed. On a summer day enjoy a hike before lunch at the park’s award-winning River Café, and in winter ice-skate on the lagoon before escaping to the warmth of the IMAX theater in the Eau Claire Market, located on the Bow River’s downtown shore.

Music for the Folks, and other Fun

For much of the year, Prince’s Island Park, just a few minutes’ walk north of the hustle and bustle of downtown Calgary, offers a quiet oasis for people to go for a walk or eat their lunch. But over most summer weekends the park is alive with family fun—different music festivals and celebrations take over the pretty little island in the Bow River. The biggest event is the Calgary Folk Music Festival that brings hundreds of artists to play for more than 50,000 people the last weekend in July. But there’s way more than mandolins—there’s always an eclectic lineup of music “for the folks” and bouncy play structures, volunteers running games, and playgrounds for the kids.
