Native Pittsburghers know that no dessert can top a Prantl's Burnt Almond Torte. Deliciously light cake, crispy with toasted almonds, with a cool filling—this is the stuff dreams are made of. For a little less indulgent version, the Burnt Almond Cup is a smaller, three-bite torte.
Pull up a chair in the square, and enjoy some good old-fashioned people watching in the middle of the Steel City, the perfect accompaniment to your out-of-this-world dessert. Visiting the original Shadyside store (5525 Walnut Street) is a treat, but I prefer the Downtown location, a spot that has benefited from a recent neighborhood renovation and revitalization project and now offers cobblestone streets, beautiful trees, and a center square where you can kick back and relax.
