While vacationing in the Algarve I wanted to visit a beach described as unusual and exotic. We left Lagos and traveled west past Vila do Bispo and followed the signs for about 15 minutes. We had heard that there was a beautiful beach in the area called Castelejo Beach. Following the narrow road to the beach we parked and walked down to the sea. What a sight. This beach is strewn with huge rocks, boulders, golden sand, and is surrounded by immense cliffs. At the top of the stairs there is a great restaurant, the Castelejo Resturant, which specializes in octopus and fish dishes.
If you want to sunbath, body surf, or surf this is the place to go. Sit and let any stress melt away, or watch the surfers who enjoy this wild beach.
After sunbathing and relaxing, stop at the restaurant for a cool drink or dinner and watch the sun set over the beach rocks and boulders.
What a great day we had. We'll return to this coast and the Castelejo Beach.
