Praetorian Palace

One of the most important architectural landmarks in Koper, this vast white-stone palace dominates the southern side of Tito Square, the heart of the Slovenian port city. Serving as the seat of city government for six centuries, the original building was constructed in the mid-15th century in a Venetian-Gothic style, with decorative pointed arches and Moorish windows; it was updated in 1664 with the current Renaissance-style facade, which added rounded windows, a new portal and various coats of arms, plaques and statues. In 1991, the palace underwent another renovation that lasted a full decade. The Koper tourist office is on the main floor, and the building is open for guided tours.
