Port O’Connor Paddling Trail
Three short trails take floaters on a 25-mile total journey along Texas’s wildlife-rich coast. They interconnect and overlap, making it easy to change course along the way. The Fishpond Trail rolls for 12.3 miles, extending from Port O’Connor to Saluria Bayou, via a bevy of swamps and cuts, and snipping the side of Espiritu Santo Bay. There, it meets the 8.28-mile South Loop Trail—especially stunning when it bursts into bloom. The North Loop continues toward Sunday Beach along the Gulf of Mexico
. Don’t miss Lighthouse Cove, tucked into the sugary sand near Matagorda Lighthouse, or the Confederate trench lines that recall the fighting that occurred in this area during the Civil War.
