A Crumbling MessIf ever there was an utterly broken country, Haiti is it. The capital city of Port-au-Prince is a mammoth crumbling mess of dilapidated buildings, unspeakable poverty, stinking garbage, and blaring traffic.
To be fair. the 2010 earthquake only made a desperate situation worse, but where did the billions of dollars in aid disappear to?
It's really hard to tell as every way you turn looks the same - hopelessness in every direction.
But somehow, in a land that appears to be a lost cause, many of its inhabitants look on the bright side, trying to salvage some sort of optimism from their unfortunate fate.
In fact, the smiling faces encountered throughout the country are the only indication that maybe, maybe there is some hope.
