If ever you wondered about Robin Williams’ contribution to Malta, this fully constructed film set for his 1980 musical “Popeye” will give it to you straight. Built over the course of 7 months on the main island’s northwestern Anchor Bay by a 165-person crew, this authentic wooden village made up of no less than 20 structures is now one of the country’s top tourist attractions—especially for families. As soon as you enter the village, characters from the famous cartoon will greet you, and activities like giant water trampoline await. For those who don’t like spinach (or aren’t traveling with kids), there’s a lovely view from the top of the road over the bay, which makes for a nice, quick and quiet photo.
