Poor Knights Islands Marine Reserve
About 24 kilometers (15 miles) off the coast of Tutukaka, Poor Knights Islands Marine Reserve—a pending UNESCO World Heritage Site—is a dream destination for divers, with over 125 species of fish coexisting with corals, sponges, kelp forests and a variety of temperate and subtropical marine life. The islands, with dramatic cliffs, arches and caves (including the world’s largest sea cave), are all that remain of an 11-million-year-old volcano.
