Forty kilometers from Plymouth is the village of Polperro, a picture-perfect Cornish seaside town that has been home to fishermen—and a smuggling trade—for centuries. A local landmark of note is a house covered entirely in shells, located in the Warren, a pedestrian-only area alongside the harbor. History lovers will want to stop at the Polperro Harbour Heritage Museum, which recounts Polperro's seafaring history. After taking in the views from the waterfront, head into the town's narrow streets and alleys for a stroll through the shops, pubs and restaurants.
