Polis Sucos
Rio’s answer to fast food (tropical juices squeezed from every imaginable fruit, alongside the widest variety of sandwiches and snacks known as
salgados) is well represented in Rio’s southern quarters. Polis Sucos is a classic of classics, with more than 50 years of serving up the very same, seemingly unbeatable menu, if the vox populi is to be trusted. There’s just a stand-up bar—no chairs or tables—where the staff slings obscene quantities of juice and acai next to sandwiches like the
palmira cheese special (the biggest seller) or the bacon cheeseburger. A guilty pleasure that’s pure Carioca.
