Plaza San Martín
Belgrano 3861, San Martin, Buenos Aires, Argentina
Plaza San MartínElegant Plaza San Martín, with its wide promenade, is the perfect starting place for a tour of the city’s Belle Époque palaces. Palacio Paz and Palacio San Martín—directly facing the plaza—are open on select days. From the plaza, walk up Esmeralda to Arroyo and peer into the courtyard at the Estrugamou Building; then follow Arroyo across vast Avenida 9 de Julio to admire the Ortiz Basualdo Palace, now the French Embassy. On Plaza Pellegrini you’ll find the Pereda Palace, now the Brazilian embassy, plus the Jockey Club. Then make your way down Avenida Alvear, where the Palacio Duhau asserts stellar fin-de-siècle bonafides and is now home to the Park Hyatt. The hotel restaurant overlooks a gorgeous rear garden.
