Playa Langosta

Zona Hotelera, 77500 Cancún, Q.R., Mexico

This extensive white-sand beach is the one Cancún locals love the most, and it’s still largely unknown to tourists. Bisected by a lengthy pier, Playa Langosta has calm, shallow, crystal-clear waters like most other beaches on the Cancún Hotel Zone’s northern side, making it an ideal escape for families with small kids as well as those who just want to lounge beside the sea. Restrooms and a playground are on-site, but beach chairs are not always available for rent, so consider bringing your own.

Cool off at Playa Langosta

If you’re staying in Tamarindo and looking for a quick and easy escape from town, Playa Langosta’s the spot for you. Grab a bike and follow the road from the Super 2001 heading away from town. A 15-minute ride, with a gentle undulation or two, will bring you to a small shopping complex (think three or four stores). Stop in at Matty’s Deli Café and get hydrated as there’s nothing at the beach. (The homemade, unsweetened iced tea hits the spot.) Across the road you’ll find beach access. Follow the trail for about five minutes, past the Barceló Hotel’s lounge chair compound, and you’ll come to a giant bay where you can hang your things on a tree, don your trunks and jump into the turquoise blue waters and blissfully spend an hour, two or more. Once you’re done, and you’re ready for a bite, head back to Matty’s for a freshly made sandwich or salad. The seared ahi tuna wrap with Asian slaw, avocado and wasabi aioli is a personal favorite.
