Plage du Port Vieux

Swimming Back In Time at Plage du Port Vieux
My favorite "pool" in Biarritz is at Plage du Port Vieux.

This horseshoe-shaped beach was originally the port before housing baths established by Napoleon III in 1858.

The calm, tranquil waters make this an ideal place for a swim without competition from the line up of surfers and bodyboarders on the Grand Plage.

The beach is also home to the swimming club,"Les Ours Blancs" (The Polar Bears), whose members swim this beach every day since 1929.

We love to join them on the beach Christmas Day when their annual champagne and swim event draws great crowds.
