Place Pasquale Paoli
The name of the 18th-century Corsican freedom fighter and patriot Pasquale Paoli lives on in L'Île-Rousse’s main square, under whose palms and shady plane trees locals play pétanque. Place Pasquale Paoli is flanked by two fine small churches. After strolling the narrow old streets, visitors can continue their walk about town on the three-kilometer-long (two-mile-long) seafront Promenade Marinella and then wander over to the red-rock Île de la Pietra peninsula with its old lighthouse and Genoese stone tower.
