Piton Mountains of St. Lucia
While recently on a cruise that included a stop in St. Lucia, I finally did one of those things that I had on my bucket list - hike the world famous Piton Mountains that the island's so known for. In my research, I found an excellent tour operator, Real St Lucia Tours. Janus at the company arranged for a pick-up from the ship, a private guide who showed us around the island, and arranged for our hike. Danny, our guide, who was born on the island, showed us around. He gave us the complete history his country, while he drove us from one side of the island to the other. He took us from the busy capital port town of Castries, through tiny, colorful fishing villages like Anse la Raye and Choiseul. We learned about the farming and the culture and ever stopped form some freshly-baked bread at a favorite local bakery. After about 2 hours of touring one side of the island, Danny took us to the Gros Piton to our hike - which was a challenge worth conquering. This photo of Petit Piton, about three miles away from came into view. It's a stunning view, After our hike, Danny took us around the other part of the island stopping once more at one of his favorite spots for some wood-over baked bread stuffed with cheese. Thankfully the hike afforded us the chance to inhale some more carbs before heading back to the ship to sail. What a great day in St. Lucia.
