Rocky desert mountains shield this hot narrow valley where vineyards grow green grapes that are crushed into sweet white wine then distilled into smooth Pisco. The Pisco Valley is the most dramatic wine growing region I have been to in the WORLD. Pisco Del Elqui is a small sleepy town most visit for a day trip, but I highly recommend spending a night or two (or three) in this magical valley. First visit Mistral Pisco distillery, enjoy a tour, Pisco tasting and Pisco Sour with lunch on the patio. Next ride a horse at sunset up the rocky mountain and watch the setting rays creep up the opposite mountain as the valley inhabitants take an evening stroll. Rent a bike and ride to Los Nichos Distillery and/or downhill ride to the town of Monte Gabriela, note it's all up hill coming back.
