Santini's Masterpiece at Zelená hora
It’s hard to imagine the Czech architectural landscape without the Baroque Gothic works of the country’s greatest architect, Jan Blažej Santini Aichel. His final work, and arguably his masterpiece, is the Pilgrimage Church of St. John of Nepomuk on the hill known as Zelená hora. The interior is filled with symbolism— such as John’s tongue at the top of the dome— and plays with light and shadow, while the ten-pointed cloister surrounding the church makes it stand out as one of the most mystical experiences in Czechia.
