Michigan's Leelanau peninsula was covered in the brilliant reds and golds of autumn during the first week of October. Taking advantage of the "peak", we stopped to enjoy this vantage on the Pierce Stocking Scenic Drive in the Sleeping Bear Dunes National Lakeshore. Flanked by Empire Bluffs (visible) on the south and Sleeping Bear Bluffs on the north, the small lake you see in front of you is the aptly named North Bar Lake, formed from ponding behind a sand bar which serves to separate it from Lake Michigan.
