We were there for the beginning of the remarkable Phaung Daw Oo Pagoda Festival on Inle Lake - which takes place at the beginning of October (depending on a Buddhist calendar)
It was a privilege to be part of such an auspicious occasion. Our boat guide brought me to his personal village to watch and I was the only foreigner present. The next day was more crowded but he took us to another friends home and we got to watch from some elevation which was great.
Set in and around the stilted villages of Inle Lake the Phaung Daw Oo Pagoda Festival is one of the largest Buddhist festivals in Burma. The festival is held from the first day of the waxing moon to the third day after the full moon of Thadingyut: September and October in our western calendar.
