Fishing for Rainbow Trout
On every fisherman's bucket list, lies Alaska. Known for its whopping king salmon and varieties of trout, my father and I wanted to have this Alaskan experience first-hand. We boarded a charter with Phantom Tri-River Charters, put on our wader boots and with exceptional guides leading the way, headed out into the icy waters, filled with glacial silt from the spring's runoff. Within the first hour, our small crew reeled in nineteen Dolly Varden, a type of trout found primarily in cold-water tributaries of the Pacific Ocean in North America and Asia. My father and I continually looked over at one another and grinned, with smiles of mutual satisfaction: we were fishing in the waters of Alaska, together. There's the thrill of the catch, but the most incredible thing about this experience is the interaction with nature: the crisp air filling your lungs, the bald eagles perched in the trees that are bright green with new spring growth, and the sounds of stillness.
