Interrupting the jagged Costa Blanca shoreline with her castle and catacombs is the town of Peñíscola, often described as the “Gibraltar of Valencia.”

Walk the cobbled streets and peer into quaint shops that sell artisan goods, then sit down for lunch at one of the restaurants, which range from humble to haute cuisine. A trek to the top of the castle will be rewarded by a view of the shimmering sea.
