New to Fado, and deciding where to have your first listen? Eager to experience one of Portugal's signature traditions, but short on time in Lisbon--or not eager to spend tons of money and a late night out to do it? Pastel do Fado has you covered.
Since spring of 2014, beautiful voices have resounded from Pastel do Fado, a new-concept wine bar just beneath Lisbon's Castelo de São Jorge. When my husband and I visited in June in a last-minute morning out before leaving the city, we enjoyed an hour of Fado, coffee and delicious traditional cakes. Since our visit, the bar has introduced service of simple meals, such as sardines with couscous and fish pies with salad. Pastel do Fado also sells tasty mementos, such as homemade jams, preserved fish and wines from around Portugal.
We loved the music, the vibe and friendly service, and can't wait to return for another round of Pastel do Fado!
