This region of Germany is near the Austrian border and offers the type of scenery you would imagine for this part of the world: jagged mountain peaks, cows grazing in rolling green meadows, and charming little Bavarian villages and churches. It's a quick trip from Munich on the Autobahn, and Innsbruck is also nearby.
Hidden away in the midst of this scenic splendor is the Partnach Gorge, a mandatory addition to any hiker's Wanderlist. Follow the meandering stream through the steep mossy walls of the gorge, and marvel at the water's turquoise color in the sunshine. It's delightfully cool in the gorge, so this is an especially fun hike on a hot summer day. Expect to get a little wet and to encounter some slippery patches. Bring a picnic lunch to eat when you emerge on the other side.
