At the northern extreme of the island of Montreal you’ll find some of the city’s most stunning walking grounds. Parc nature de l’île de la Visitation is right on the riverbank of Rivière des Prairies, offering views of rapids and small islands and a defunct dam on one side and sprawling greenery on the other, buttressed against some of the oldest houses in the neighbourhoods of Saint-Leonard and Saint-Michel (there are fieldstone farmhouses that date back to the 18th century). The park has been landscaped to accommodate bikes and pedestrians alike, with pretty picnic spots every 100 feet or so as well as water fountains and large expanses of manicured grass for games of ultimate Frisbee and more.
