on the beach in Bavaro, Punta Cana!
The Dominican Republic (La Republica Dominicana) is a small country bordered by Haiti to the west. Despite the opulence of the hotels and beaches in Bavaro, the DR is in fact a third world country. It was bizarre knowing that as I relaxed on the beach, children were starving no more than 10 miles away. But my favorite thing about the DR was the culture. People from all over the world had flown in to gape at the beauty of Punta Cana's beaches and escape the world for a little while. I must have heard over 10 languages! If you plan on visiting I suggest 3 things: sunscreen, a good read, and confidence! Despite their size, everyone's bathing suit was tiny!
