It helps to know someone who lives in the area when visiting a new place for the first time. Our friend Lou was that guy. He had been living in City of David, Panama for a few years and showed my hubby and I some of the local spots during our 3 day visit. One of the most memorable places we visited was a small beach town where Playa Hermosa was located in the province of Chiriqui. Although the neighborhood around it was quiet and colorful, the beach itself was grand; a longggg stretch of sand and ocean was all ours. We were advised to go on a Monday to avoid the weekend crowds and that we did. We were the only souls on Playa Hermosa's cove, along with the taxi driver that took us there, which Lou hired privately, especially since the road to get there was bumpy and off the main path. After our dip in the surprisingly warm sea, we wandered just a couple hundred feet to a mangrove covered river area. The water there was too still and shallow for us to swim in but the canopy of outstreched tree limbs provided shade for our sunkissed skin.
